I have been patiently waiting to start sowing the first seeds of the year! I eagerly sorted through my seed box looking for seeds I could sow in February and found I could sow broccoli and tomatoes. I had some eco coco potting soil and set to work! I planted broccoli and tigerella tomatoes and rainbow blend tomatoes. I popped the pots on my windowsill and waited for the magic to happen. After a few days my broccoli started to sprout followed shortly by the rainbow blend tomatoes. Such a joy to see!!

I had some carrot seeds that were slightly out of date and thought I would give them a chance too and they are shooting up great!

I find sowing seeds slightly addictive and have managed to stop myself from planting too many.

Thinning out seedlings really doesn't appeal to me as I haven't got the heart to destroy a potential plant, so I am more considered when I sow seeds and only sow what I need.

Today I purchased a mini propagator and eagerly sowed some more seeds. I sowed beef tomatoes, roma tomatoes, sweet peppers, aubergines, moneymaker tomatoes and scarlet curly kale.

This year I plan to put a greenhouse on my plot so I can house my aubergines and peppers.

Hurry up March I want to sow more seeds!!

Natalie's Allotment Tips

#1

Do little and often, consistency pays off.

#2

Talk to your neighbours. They will be able to tell you what grows well on your particular site and give you useful advice.

#3

Always net over green leafy vegetables as birds love to nibble them, theres nothing more disheartening than finding your brocolli seedlings have been eaten down to stalks!
